Chhattisgarh government has imposed entertainment tax on Direct-to-Home (DTH) connections with effect from June. The tax will be ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per connection, officials with the state commercial tax department said. The dealers of companies providing DTH services in the state will collect the tax.
The officials said the tax would be applicable only on cities having a population of over 10,000. While the charge for towns having populations between 10,000 and 50,000 will be Rs 10, the subscribers will have to pay Rs 20 per connection in the towns exceeding populations of 50,000.The decision came in the wake of large number of subscribers getting the service without paying the required tax.
During a review meeting held recently, Chhattisgarh minister for commercial tax, Amar Agrawal, expressed anguish over people entertaining DTH services without paying the entertainment tax.
