Auction for the 3G spectrum ended on a very high profile & take 34 days to complete. Total revenue from auction reached to Rs. 67718.95 crore. In the auction the major winner were Bharti Airtel -13 circle for Rs. 12295.46 crore, Reliance communication -13 circle for Rs. 8585.04 crore, Idea cellular-11 circle for Rs. 5769 crore and Vodafone – 9 circle for Rs. 11610 crore. The company can start their services from September 2010.
Despite the high price, none of the nine participating operators won spectrum in every one of the country’s 22 telcom circle, meaning no single telco will be able to offer nation wide 3G coverage. The auction format and severe spectrum shortage along the ensuing policy uncertainty drove the price beyond reasonable levels. “As a result they could not achieve their objective of a pan-India 3G footprint.” The 3G can fuel the convergence phenomenon by making the mobile phone a very handy tool for accessing video and audio format.
Motorola has started the survey on 4G. In Europe 4G bids were started but India is bidding for 3G only. There is huge advantage of 4G. Data Transfer, Share Trading, Live Mobile TV will get more faster from today.
The Chinese company can go to the WTO protesting restrictive trade practices, but over and above that, it is well with in the sovereign right of India to put in place such a ban citing security concern. The government informely asked the telecom operator recently to avoid Chinese equipment. In December a ban on Chinese made mobile handset without IMEI number came into effect, disconnecting some 20 million connection. The china embassy has written to prime minister seeking clarity on the government’s policy for procuring telecom equipment in the light of the security concern raised against gear manufactured by Chinese firm such as ZTE & Huawei. “Let’s see, what happens next”.
