2G Scam & 3G Auction

RameshThe 2G Spectrum allocation could turn out to be the biggest scam in recent history that had cost the country a whooping Rs 60,000 crore. The Govt. has now to cover up one more skeleton falling straight out of Telecom Minister A Raja’s cupboard. Accused of working hand in glove with some real estate companies, Raja contention that the PM was in the loop has drawn more flak for Congress from the opposition parties.

While, the government is setting new timelines for the auction of 3G spectrum, it has yet to deal with the ghosts of it’s past. Just a few months back, telecom was the sunshine story of India. Massive number of new subscribers created a revolution, not leaving even remote parts of the country untouched.

In the wake of this irregularity coming to the fore, the image of India and the Indian Govt has been dented with ministers and officials being painted as corrupt and untrustworthy. Still, it is left to be seen how the Govt pulls itself out of this 2G controversy and delivers a scar-free image for 3G auction. It is without doubt that the 3G auction is going to be a big revenue grosser for the govt. with many international players taking interest. The govt. needs to get its act clean quickly to present a picture of fair play in the upcoming auctions.
