Asim Ghosh, CEO of Vodafone Essar who is associated with the venture for more than a decade now has decided to step down from his role on March 31. He will however continue to serve the company in the
capacity of non-executive member on the board.
Asim Ghosh is credited with leading the firm into a major player in the mobile services space in India. In his stint the company has gown rapidly to garner more than 60 million subscribers. He is also reported to have stake in the venture. Also while the company witnessed many changes in management control, Ghosh continued to remain the favourite to lead the team. He is a graduate of electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and a master in business administration from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, the US. Marten Pieters, who is currently a director on the board of Luxembourgbased Millicom International Cellular, will take over from Ghosh.
